Kali/JKD
Our Kali/JKD program uses the Minnesota Kali Group Method to combine Kali, Panantukan and JKD into a fun and engaging curriculum. Students will learn weaponry (single and double stick, dagger, stick and dagger), empty hand striking, limb destructions, off-balancing, multiple opponent awareness and much more!
Our Kali/JKD curriculum has been passed down to us from Guro Rick Faye founder of the world renowned Minnesota Kali Group (MKG), and from Guro Dan Inosanto, the leading expert on Kali/Panantukan/JKD in the United States. We continue to study under both of these amazing martial artists to stay at the forefront of the development of these arts.
Kali:
Kali is a weapons based martial art that originated in the Philippines. Though it is primarily a weapons system, Kali uses both the right and left sides of the body to develop attributes such as coordination, range, timing, footwork, distancing and speed. Drills and techniques are taught in a fluid and cyclical manor to give the students space to explore and discover what works best for their own unique set of attributes.
Panantukan:
Panantukan (Filipino Boxing) originated in the Philippines and is the empty hand companion to Kali. Sometimes referred to as “Dirty-Boxing”, this system incorporates traditional boxing strikes with limb destructions, off-balancing, body manipulations and multiple opponent awareness. Students will learn how to strike with hands, forearms, elbows, head, knees, shins and feet to any available target. This martial art is trained in both right and left lead, teaching students to strike from any angle as well as promoting health and longevity in training.
Jun Fan/JKD:
Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do was developed by the late Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee created a fighting method designed to be fast and efficient, focusing on moving easily through fighting ranges. Our classes teach students how to flow efficiently between ranges, moving from long range (kicking) to mid range (punching) to close range (trapping and standing grappling). While Jun Fan is the physical martial art, Jeet Kune Do is Bruce Lee’s martial art philosophy. One of the founding principles is personal growth and our instructors encourage students to research and develop their own individual style.
